Features → Coach Mo
The AI fitness coach that actually remembers you.
Coach Mo is MoveTogether’s purpose-built AI fitness coach — not a stock language model with a fitness prompt taped on top. Five personalities, persistent long-term memory, real-time awareness of your actual activity and competitions, and a privacy architecture that redacts your identity before any message ever leaves the app.
What makes Mo different
Most “AI fitness coach” apps wrap a generic chatbot in a workout-branded UI. The model doesn’t know who you are between sessions, doesn’t see your activity, and gives the same answer it would give anyone.
Coach Mo is the opposite of that. It’s built around your data — your real activity, your real competition history, your real goals — and it remembers everything you tell it through a system called Files. When you ask “how should I pace today?”, Mo doesn’t reach for canned wisdom. It looks at your week, your goal, and the patterns it’s learned about you.
And it does it under a privacy architecture where your name is never sent to Anthropic — it’s redacted to a placeholder and restored on your device.
Five personalities. Pick the one you actually want to hear from.
The same fitness facts feel completely different depending on who’s telling you. Coach Mo ships with five distinct coaching voices — switch between them whenever your training mood changes.
Default
Balanced, friendly, supportive
The everyday voice. Encouraging when you're winning, honest when you're not. Free users get this persona by default.
Drill Sergeant
Tough love, no excuses
For when you need a push. Cuts through your reasons and reminds you what you said you were going to do.
Hype Man
Pure energy — every win is a celebration
For when the win matters more than the analysis. Loud, joyful, all-caps energy when you close a ring.
Big Sibling
Warm and caring, gentle accountability
For when you're being hard on yourself. Reminds you it's a long game and that off days aren't failures.
Sports Analyst
Data-driven and strategic
For competition mode. Talks pace, splits, and trends; helps you read the leaderboard like a coach reads tape.
Personalities are a Pro feature. Free users get the Default persona plus Roast Mode access.
Files: long-term memory you actually control.
Coach Mo remembers you between conversations. Not as opaque embeddings you can’t see — as plain-English bullet points organised into seven folders. Every entry is visible. Every entry is editable. Every entry is deletable. Mo’s memory of you is yours to manage.
User
Basic facts you share — age, location, the demographics you choose to tell Mo about.
Goals
"Close my Move ring 6 days a week" or "Run a sub-50 10K by July."
Habits
"Walks the dog every morning before 7am." Patterns Mo notices and stores.
Barriers
"Hates Mondays" or "Travels for work two weeks a month." What gets in the way.
Preferences
Favourite workout times, foods to avoid, exercise types you love and hate.
Wins
Personal records, streaks, milestones. The reference points Mo brings back up.
Roast material
"Said she'd run 5K on Sunday. Did 847 steps." Mo's ammunition for Roast Mode.
Your name never leaves the app.
Before any message goes from MoveTogether to Anthropic — the model provider behind Coach Mo — your name, your friends’ names, your email, and your username are redacted to placeholders. The model never sees them.
When the response comes back, your identity is restored on your device, client-side. The names you read are reattached locally and never touched the network in plaintext.
This is architecture, not a setting you can toggle. It happens on every Coach Mo message, for every user, every time.
Coach Mo also shows you an activity trace under each response — exactly which pieces of your data Mo referenced to answer you. The reasoning is visible, not a black box.
Roast Mode — when you want a wake-up call instead of a pep talk.
Flip Roast Mode on and Coach Mo sharpens. Sarcastic, no-holds- barred commentary that still uses your real data — your real numbers are the setup for the joke. Available on Free and Pro.
Default Mo
“Hey, light day yesterday. Want to talk about what got in the way?”
Roast Mode
“Not you sitting at 847 steps like that’s a flex. My grandma’s Fitbit is judging you right now.”
The Weekly Mo Report — your slide-deck recap, every Monday.
Every Monday morning, Coach Mo generates a personalised slide-deck-style recap of your fitness week — activity highlights, competition performance, streak progress, and where there’s room to push. It’s the Spotify Wrapped of your training, every seven days.
The voice of the report adapts to your chosen persona. A Drill Sergeant report reads nothing like a Hype Man report. Pair it with Roast Mode and you get the Weekly Roast Card — a fun, irreverent summary you can share to your phone’s native share sheet or straight to friends.
Weekly Mo Reports and Roast Cards are Pro features.
What Coach Mo can — and can’t — do.
Coach Mo can
- ✓Hold a real conversation — about your goals, motivation, your activity, or just venting after a rough week.
- ✓Remember what you told it weeks ago and bring it back up at the right moment.
- ✓Surface insights when you're viewing a competition, your activity rings, or an achievement.
- ✓Generate a personalised Weekly Mo Report every Monday that adapts to your chosen persona.
- ✓Switch into Roast Mode when you want sharp humour instead of encouragement.
- ✓Talk back via voice — spoken conversation, with the same memory and personality.
Coach Mo cannot
- ×Take account actions on your behalf — it can't create competitions, change settings, or send messages for you.
- ×Generate structured strength-training programmes with sets, reps, and progressions. That's a different tool.
- ×Diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or replace a real doctor or certified trainer.
- ×Access data you haven't shared — Mo only knows what's in your Files and your visible activity inside MoveTogether.
- ×See your friends' separate Coach Mo conversations or modify anyone else's experience.
Coach Mo, briefly answered.
How is Coach Mo different from ChatGPT?
Coach Mo is purpose-built fitness coaching with persistent memory, real activity data, and personas — not a stock LLM. It doesn't have canned answers. Every response is generated from your real activity, your real competition history, and your real goals.
What is "Files" and what does Coach Mo remember about me?
Files is Coach Mo's long-term memory. It organises what you've shared across seven folders: User, Goals, Habits, Barriers, Preferences, Wins, and Roast material. You can view, edit, add to, search, and delete every entry. Mo's memory of you is yours to manage.
Is my data sent to OpenAI or Anthropic with my name attached?
No. Your name, your friends' names, your email, and your username are redacted to placeholders before any message leaves MoveTogether for Anthropic. Your identity is restored on your device, client-side only. This is architecture, not a setting you can toggle.
How many personalities does Coach Mo have?
Five: Default (balanced, friendly, supportive), Drill Sergeant (tough love), Hype Man (pure energy), Big Sibling (warm and caring), and Sports Analyst (data-driven). Personalities are a Pro feature; free users get the Default persona.
What is Roast Mode and is it included with the free plan?
Roast Mode sharpens Coach Mo into sarcastic, no-holds-barred commentary grounded in your real data — perfect for when you want a wake-up call instead of a pep talk. It's available on both Free and Pro plans; the difference is your weekly allowance of Coach Mo messages.
Can Coach Mo write me a workout program with sets and reps?
No. Coach Mo is built for conversation, motivation, competition strategy, and reflection — not structured strength programming with progressions. For structured workouts, we point you to dedicated strength-training tools and stay focused on what Mo does well.
Does Coach Mo work with voice?
Yes. You can have spoken conversations with Mo. Voice and text share the same weekly allowance, but voice conversations use more of it than text messages do.
