Frequently asked questions

Wearable compatibility, how scoring works across devices, what Coach Mo can do, pricing, and privacy — straight answers to the most-asked questions about MoveTogether.

Getting started

How do I create a MoveTogether account?

Download MoveTogether from the App Store, open the app, and follow the on-screen sign-up flow. You can sign in with Apple ID, phone number, or email. Onboarding walks you through choosing a username, setting your daily activity goals, and connecting a fitness tracker. The whole setup takes about two minutes.

How do I connect my fitness tracker?

Onboarding asks 'How do you move?' and offers two paths: Apple Health or a dedicated wearable. Pick Apple Health if you use Apple Watch, Tonal, Peloton, MIRROR, NordicTrack, or any of 100+ Apple Health-compatible fitness apps — you'll also be asked to tag your equipment so Coach Mo can give equipment-aware advice. Pick Dedicated Wearable if you use Google Fitbit, Garmin, WHOOP, Oura, Strava, Polar, Suunto, or Ultrahuman — you'll OAuth into the manufacturer's account. Google Pixel Watch will be supported once we migrate to the Google Health API before September 2026.

Does MoveTogether work on Android?

MoveTogether for Android launches on the Google Play Store in Q3 2026 — sign up for the launch waitlist at /android. Google Pixel Watch isn't supported on iOS yet — when we migrate to the Google Health API (before September 2026, when Google retires the older Fitbit Web API), Pixel Watch users will be able to compete via MoveTogether on iOS, and the Android launch ships with Pixel Watch already supported. Samsung Galaxy Watch users will be supported on Android when Samsung Health support lands.

Can kids use MoveTogether?

MoveTogether is designed for general audiences and follows the App Store’s standard age rating. We don’t collect more data from younger users than from older ones, but a parent should review the privacy policy before signing a child up. If you set up a family group, age-appropriate goals can be configured per family member.

Compatibility & wearables

Which wearables does MoveTogether support?

Two paths. Via Apple Health (no wearable required): Apple Watch, Tonal, Peloton, MIRROR, NordicTrack, smart treadmills, spin bikes, smart scales, 100+ fitness apps, or just an iPhone with no equipment. Via dedicated OAuth integration: Google Fitbit (including the new Fitbit Air, plus Charge 6, Inspire 3, Versa 4, Sense 2, Ace LTE), Garmin, WHOOP, Oura Ring, Strava, Polar, Suunto, and Ultrahuman. Google Pixel Watch is coming when we migrate to the Google Health API before September 2026. Friends on different brands compete on the same leaderboard.

Do I need a wearable to use MoveTogether?

No. If you have an iPhone, you can compete. Steps and Active Energy estimates flow from the iPhone's motion sensors. If you train with Tonal, Peloton, MIRROR, NordicTrack, or any Apple Health-compatible equipment or fitness app, those workouts also flow in. The Apple Health path is built specifically for the no-wearable case — pick it during onboarding, tag your equipment (or 'Just my iPhone'), and you're in.

Does MoveTogether work with Apple Watch?

Yes — Apple Watch is fully supported. MoveTogether reads your Move, Exercise, and Stand rings (plus steps and workouts) directly from Apple Health, so your existing data and goals carry over automatically. No re-tracking, no re-pairing, no app to install on the watch itself. Apple Watch data syncs within minutes of activity.

Can I compete with friends on a different wearable?

Yes. That's the entire point of MoveTogether. We normalize activity across every supported device into a unified score so cross-wearable competition is fair. An Apple Watch user, a Google Fitbit user, and a Garmin user can join the same competition and the math handles itself.

Can I use multiple wearables at once?

No — only one active tracker at a time, to prevent duplicate data. If you switch devices in the middle of a competition (say from Google Fitbit to Apple Watch), scores combine activity from both your previous and new tracker so you don't lose progress. Switch sources in Settings → Connected Devices.

How often does my data sync?

Apple Watch syncs within minutes through Apple Health. Third-party trackers (Google Fitbit, Garmin, WHOOP, Oura, Strava, Polar, Suunto, Ultrahuman) sync every 15 to 30 minutes — that depends on how often the device's companion app syncs with its servers. You can pull down to refresh in MoveTogether to force-check for new data.

How competitions work

How does scoring work across different devices?

MoveTogether normalizes data across all supported devices so that differences in how trackers calculate metrics don’t unfairly favor anyone. Scores are calculated server-side, which keeps the math consistent and prevents manipulation. The scoring method you pick when creating a competition determines exactly what counts — see the scoring methods question for details.

What scoring methods are available?

Five: Ring Close Count (points per activity ring closure), Percentage of Goals (points based on what percent of your personal goal you complete each day), Raw Numbers (calories, exercise minutes, or steps directly), Step Count (steps only), and Workout Based (dedicated exercise sessions only). Ring Close and Percentage are device-agnostic. Raw Numbers and Step Count apply normalization to keep cross-device competition fair.

What competition formats are available?

You can pick preset durations: Weekend (Saturday–Sunday), Weekly (Monday–Sunday), or Monthly. Or set a Custom date range for any window you want. Competitions can be set to repeat automatically, which generates a fresh cycle as soon as the previous one ends. Team mode is available for 2-, 3-, or 4-team competitions.

How long do competitions last?

From a single weekend to a full month or any custom range you set. Most groups run weekly or weekend competitions — short enough to keep momentum, long enough that one bad day doesn’t end your run. Monthly works well for habit-building groups and 30-day challenges.

Can I create a team competition?

Yes. When creating a competition, choose team mode and select 2, 3, or 4 teams. Each team’s combined score determines the ranking — which encourages collaboration and changes the dynamic from individual rivalry to crew-vs-crew. Participants pick their team when they join.

Can I leave a competition I’ve joined?

Yes. Open the competition, tap the more options menu, and select Leave Competition. This action can’t be undone — you’ll be removed from the leaderboard and your score is reset for that competition. Other participants and the leaderboard continue without you.

How does the leaderboard update?

In real time during an active competition. As soon as your tracker syncs new activity (within minutes for Apple Watch, 15–30 minutes for OAuth-connected trackers), your score recalculates server-side and your position on the leaderboard updates. Friends watching the leaderboard see the change without refreshing.

Coach Mo & AI

What is Coach Mo?

Coach Mo is an AI fitness coach built into MoveTogether. Mo offers personalized motivation, competition strategy, workout suggestions, and goal-setting guidance — all in a conversational chat. Unlike generic AI chatbots, Coach Mo has long-term memory of your goals and patterns, switches between five distinct personalities, and uses your real activity data for context.

What are the 5 coaching personalities?

Default (balanced, friendly, and supportive); Drill Sergeant (tough love and no excuses, for when you need a push); Hype Man (pure energy — every win is a celebration); Big Sibling (warm and caring, gentle accountability); Sports Analyst (data-driven and strategic, focused on the numbers). The persona you pick shapes every interaction including notifications and weekly reports. Switch any time in Coach Mo settings.

How does Coach Mo’s memory work?

Coach Mo uses a long-term memory system called Files. Important details about your fitness journey, goals, preferences, and past conversations are stored as documents inside searchable folders. You can view, edit, organize, or remove anything Mo remembers — it’s your data, not a black box. Mo references this memory in every coaching response so you don’t have to repeat context.

What is Roast mode?

Roast mode is a coaching style that delivers a sarcastic kick in the pants instead of a pep talk. Mo uses your real activity data and competition standings to roast your effort — specifically, personally, and with humor. Roast mode never targets your body, weight, medical conditions, or things you can’t change. Toggle it on or off in Coach Mo settings.

Does Coach Mo see my friends’ activity?

Coach Mo can see public competition data — who you’re competing against, where you stand on the leaderboard, and what the gap looks like. That’s how Mo can give you live competition intel. Mo does not see your friends’ private activity feed entries, direct messages, or any data outside the competitions you share with them.

Is Coach Mo just ChatGPT with a wrapper?

No. ChatGPT doesn’t see your activity rings, your competitions, or your historical patterns. Coach Mo does — every coaching response is informed by your live fitness data, your goal history, and what your competitors are doing. Mo also has persistent memory across sessions (via Files), five distinct coaching personalities, and a Roast mode that uses your data to push you. ChatGPT can’t do any of that.

Pricing & subscriptions

Is MoveTogether free?

Yes. The Free plan is free forever and includes up to 2 active competitions, ring tracking across every supported wearable, competition leaderboards, daily challenges, and a small weekly Coach Mo preview. Pro is optional and unlocks unlimited competitions, full Coach Mo with a much larger weekly allowance, achievements, group chat, and more. See the pricing page for the full comparison.

Why is Pro cheaper on web than in the app?

Apple takes a platform fee of up to 30% on in-app subscriptions. The Pro subscription is the same product on web and iOS, but on web we don’t pay the platform fee — so we pass that savings on. Monthly Pro is $12.99 on Apple or $9.99 on web. Annual is $99.99 on Apple or $79.99 on web. Subscriptions sync automatically, so you can subscribe on web and use Pro inside the iOS app.

Will my subscription work on iOS if I subscribe on web?

Yes. Subscriptions sync automatically across web and iOS once you sign in. You can subscribe on web (cheaper) and use Pro inside the iOS app without anything extra to set up. Same account, same Pro features, lower price.

What is the Founders Annual offer?

Founders Annual is a limited-time pricing option for early subscribers. $59.99/year, web only. The catch is that there is no catch: subscribe at the Founders rate while it’s available, and your renewal stays at $59.99/year for as long as you keep your subscription — even after the offer ends. Saves $40/year vs Apple annual and $20/year vs Web annual.

Is there a free trial?

Free trials of Pro are offered on web checkout. There is no trial on Apple in-app subscriptions. If you want to try Pro before paying, sign up on web. Trials convert to paid subscriptions automatically unless you cancel before the trial ends.

How do I cancel my subscription?

For Apple subscriptions: Settings → Subscription → Manage Subscription, which sends you to the App Store. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid the next charge. For web subscriptions: manage in your account portal at portal.movetogetherfitness.com. Either way, Pro features stay active until the end of your current billing period, and your data is preserved when your account reverts to Free.

Are payments refundable?

Subscription payments are non-refundable per our Terms and Conditions. If you cancel, Pro features remain available until the end of your current billing cycle, and your account then reverts to the Free plan. For Apple subscriptions, Apple’s standard refund process is the path of last resort — we don’t process App Store refunds directly.

Streaks, Shields & achievements

How do streaks work?

A streak counts your consecutive days of ring activity. Every day you close at least one activity ring, your streak ticks up by one. Miss a day with no Shield available, and the streak resets to zero. Streaks are one of the most-loved mechanics in the app — they’re a low-pressure way to build a daily habit without needing a competition.

What are Shields?

Shields are protective mechanisms that forgive a missed day. If you miss closing a ring (rest day, travel, illness, life), the system automatically uses a Shield to protect your streak instead of resetting it. Think of them as get-out-of-jail-free cards for your streak — the longer your streak, the more protection you’ve accumulated.

How do I earn Shields?

You earn Shields automatically by hitting streak milestones: 7, 14, 30, 60, 100, 200, and 365 consecutive days. Each milestone awards a new Shield, so longer streaks build up more cushion. There’s no other way to grind Shields — they’re a reward for consistency, not something you can pay for or trade.

How many Shields can I have?

There’s no cap on the number of Shields you can hold. As you cross more streak milestones, you accumulate more Shields. They’re consumed only when you actually miss a day; otherwise they stay banked. Long-streak veterans tend to have a healthy stockpile.

Privacy & data

What data does MoveTogether collect?

Your name, email address, username, and profile photo when you create an account. Fitness metrics like steps, calories, exercise minutes, and workouts synced from your tracker. Competition scores and rankings. Anonymous analytics about how you use the app. We don’t collect health data we don’t need to run the app — and we don’t collect anything that isn’t covered in the privacy policy.

Who can see my activity?

Competition participants can see your competition-related stats on the leaderboard — subject to your privacy settings. Friends can see your activity in the social feed — subject to your privacy settings. People who aren’t in a competition with you and aren’t friends with you can’t see your activity. Your raw fitness data is never visible to other users.

Does MoveTogether sell my data?

No. We never sell your personal information or share your raw health data with third parties. The business model is subscriptions, not data resale. AI features (Coach Mo) use your data only to give you better coaching — not to train models for anyone else.

Can I delete my account and all my data?

Yes. Settings → Privacy → Delete My Account. Confirm your identity if prompted, then confirm deletion. Deletion is permanent and can’t be undone — all of your data, competition history, achievements, friends, and Coach Mo memory will be removed. If you want a copy of your data before deleting, contact support.

Troubleshooting

Why isn’t my fitness data syncing?

Most sync issues come from one of three things: app permissions, internet connection, or an outdated app version. Quick checklist: pull down to refresh on any fitness-data screen; force-close and reopen MoveTogether; verify your tracker’s companion app has synced recently; confirm you’re online. If you’re on Apple Watch, check that all relevant categories are enabled in Apple Health settings.

How long should syncing take?

Apple Watch data appears within minutes via Apple Health. Third-party trackers — Google Fitbit, Garmin, WHOOP, Oura, Strava, Polar, Suunto, Ultrahuman — sync every 15 to 30 minutes. That delay depends on how frequently the tracker's companion app syncs with its own servers, not on MoveTogether. If it's been longer than 30 minutes, try a manual refresh or reconnect the tracker.

My third-party tracker data isn't showing up. What now?

Open your tracker's companion app (the Fitbit app or new Google Health app for Google Fitbit, Garmin Connect, etc.) and trigger a manual sync. If the data shows there but not in MoveTogether, go to Settings → Connected Devices, disconnect the tracker, and reconnect by signing in again — this refreshes the OAuth authorization. If it's still not working, contact support with your username, device model, and when the issue began.

How do I contact support?

The fastest path is the in-app support chat — Mo Support routes your question to a human when it needs one. You can also reach us through the social handles listed on the About page. Include your username, device model, and a screenshot of anything visual if you’re reporting a bug.
