Google Fitbit vs MoveTogether: when each platform wins.

Google Fitbit is still a strong tracker for Fitbit hardware and Pixel Watch: steps, sleep, and the Google Health app. Fitbit Challenges are gone. Workweek Hustle, Weekend Warrior, and Adventures were retired in March 2023. MoveTogether is the mixed-device friend competition layer on top of the tracker you kept.

Bottom line

Pick Google Fitbit if you want the hardware, sleep tracking, and Google Health app. A weekly friends leaderboard still exists there for Google Health friends.

Pick MoveTogether if your friends are on mixed wearables and you want everyone on one leaderboard, with AI coaching and seven scoring methods.

Use both. Keep the Fitbit or Pixel Watch as your tracker. Add MoveTogether for the mixed-device friend board. Google Health / Fitbit is one of our supported data sources, so activity flows in. Do not wait on Challenges. They are not coming back.

Google Fitbit vs MoveTogether, briefly answered.

Is MoveTogether a good Fitbit alternative?

Not as a tracker. MoveTogether does not replace your Fitbit hardware, sleep tracking, or the Google Health app, and it can read your Fitbit data directly. Fitbit Challenges are gone (retired March 2023). If you want a mixed-device friend competition on top of the tracker you kept, MoveTogether is that layer: Apple Watch, Garmin, WHOOP, and Oura friends can share a board with your Fitbit. Keep Fitbit for tracking. Add MoveTogether for the competition.

Does MoveTogether replace Google Fitbit?

No. They live in different layers. Google Health (formerly the Fitbit app) is the tracker for Fitbit hardware and Pixel Watch. MoveTogether is a mixed-device competition layer that reads that activity, plus Apple Watch, Garmin, WHOOP, Oura, and the rest, and puts invited friends on one board. Keep your Fitbit setup. Add MoveTogether for the friend group.

What replaced Fitbit Challenges?

Nothing replaced them like for like. Fitbit retired the timed Challenge formats, Workweek Hustle, Weekend Warrior and Adventures, in March 2023, and the Google Health app that took over from the Fitbit app in May 2026 did not bring them back. What Google Health does have is a weekly friends leaderboard covering steps and cardio load. That is an ongoing weekly ranking rather than a timed challenge, and it only includes friends who are also on Google Health. MoveTogether covers the other half: competitions that run for a weekend, a week, a month or a custom range, scored by any of seven methods, with friends on Apple Watch, Garmin, WHOOP, Oura, Strava, Polar or Ultrahuman on the same board as your Fitbit.

What can Fitbit users use for challenges now?

Keep the Fitbit and add a competition layer on top of it. Connect Google Health/Fitbit to MoveTogether through the provider authorization flow and your steps, active calories and exercise minutes feed a shared leaderboard. Two things differ from the Google Health leaderboard: who can join, and what gets scored. MoveTogether reads Apple Health plus seven dedicated integrations and normalizes them onto the same three numbers, so a Fitbit user and an Apple Watch user are ranked by identical arithmetic. You also choose the scoring method rather than being given one: ring closes, percentage of your own daily goals, total activity, step count, calorie burn, exercise minutes, or workout count.

I used to love Fitbit Challenges. Why would I use MoveTogether?

Because Challenges are gone. Workweek Hustle, Weekend Warrior, and Adventures were retired in March 2023 and never came back. Google Health still has a weekly friends leaderboard for people on that app. MoveTogether is the mixed-device friend competition: invite people on Garmin, Apple Watch, WHOOP, or Fitbit onto one board. Do not try to run the old Fitbit Challenges in parallel. They are not there.

Can I connect my Google Fitbit to MoveTogether?

Yes. During onboarding, choose Google Health/Fitbit and complete the provider authorization flow. You can review connection status and available device data later in Settings → Data Sources.

Does my Google Pixel Watch work with MoveTogether?

Google Health/Fitbit is a current MoveTogether data-source option. Check Data Sources in the app for the providers and devices available to your account.

How does the Fitbit Premium AI coach compare to Coach Mo?

Fitbit's AI features are newer and integrated into the Fitbit Premium subscription. Coach Mo is built around your real activity AND has explicit personalities (Default, Drill Sergeant, Hype Man, Big Sibling, Sports Analyst), long-term memory in editable Files, and Roast Mode. They're different products solving overlapping problems. Try both and see which voice you want in your head.

How does pricing compare?

Both have free tiers. Google Fitbit Premium (now bundling into Google Health Premium) is ~$9.99/mo or ~$79.99/yr (verify on store.google.com; pricing is in transition during the Google rebrand). MoveTogether Pro is $12.99/mo or $99.99/yr on iOS (Apple in-app), or $9.99/mo or $79.99/yr on web.

I'm on Android with a Pixel: can I use MoveTogether?

MoveTogether is available on iOS. Android is in open beta on Google Play. It uses Health Connect and supported connected trackers. Android open beta
