HRV (Heart Rate Variability)

Definition

The variation in the time between consecutive heartbeats, measured in milliseconds. Higher HRV generally indicates better recovery; lower HRV can signal stress, fatigue, or under-recovery. Many watches and rings (Apple Watch, Garmin, WHOOP, Oura, and others) measure it.

How MoveTogether uses it.

MoveTogether does not score competitions on HRV, and it does not request HRV from Apple Health. HRV is a recovery signal, not an output signal. It moves with sleep, alcohol, illness, altitude, and your cycle, and two equally fit people can sit 30 milliseconds apart. A leaderboard needs a number where higher reliably means someone did more. Calories, minutes, steps, and workouts do that, so they carry the scoring.

Read your HRV in your wearable's own app, where it is most useful as a trend over time.
