MoveTogether 2.0.0 is on the App Store. Under the hood it's a new app: we rebuilt MoveTogether as a native iPhone app, and this is the first version of it you can download.
On top of that rebuild, it adds a weekly league to climb, new kinds of seasonal events, a proper home for your badges, sleep, two more tracker connections, and a Coach Mo with a lot more personality. Here's what's new, why we built it, and what it means for you.
Climb the leagues
Every week you're placed in a group with other people at your tier, and you race them from Monday to Sunday. Finish near the top and you move up a tier next week. Finish near the bottom and you drop one.
Why we built it
A competition needs you to round up friends and pick dates. A league is always on. Open it once and you're in, with a new race every Monday.
How it works
- There are ten tiers, from Walker up to Legend.
- Your weekly score adds up your Move calories, your Exercise minutes, and a point for every 100 steps.
- The top of your group moves up, the middle stays put, and the bottom drops a tier. Nobody drops below Walker.
- If your group is too small for a real race, nobody moves that week.
The same screen holds two more leaderboards: your friends, ranked by today's activity, and the global top 100 for the week.
Three kinds of seasonal events
Seasonal events run for a set window, and they now come in three shapes. Each event card carries a label so you know which one you're joining.
- Challenge: a personal goal, like being active on a set number of days. You're not ranked against anyone.
- Competition: a leaderboard. Climb it before the clock runs out.
- Community: everyone pitches in toward one shared target.
Before, you could only tell a solo challenge from a race by opening it and reading the layout. The label settles it before you tap.
One home for your badges
Badges live on one screen now, reached from your profile. Seasonal event badges sit at the top. Below them, Milestones groups the rest into Streaks, Achievements, and Competition, and you can tap a group to see every badge in it.
It replaces the old split between achievements and badges, so the count on your profile matches exactly what's on the Badges screen. When you earn one, it gets its own celebration.
Anyone can earn seasonal event badges. Streak, achievement, and competition badges are earned with Pro.
Sleep, plus Strava and Polar
Last night's sleep now shows up in MoveTogether, in your Morning Brief. You'll see your total time asleep and how it split across deep, REM, light, and awake.
With Pro, the Activity screen also charts your sleep over time, next to your Move, Exercise, and weight trends. Tap Today's Activity on Home to get there.
On the tracker side, Strava and Polar join Fitbit, Garmin, WHOOP, and Oura as trackers you can connect directly, alongside Apple Health.
This is how trackers worked in 2.0.0. Since 2.1.1, every tracker sends its data to Apple Health and MoveTogether reads it from there, and direct Fitbit connections are retired.
A Coach Mo with more bite
Coach Mo picked up two new habits in 2.0.0.
Morning Brief
Mo greets you each morning with a personalized recap and a tip. Depending on what data you have, it can include last night's sleep, your recovery, yesterday's rings, and the weather where you are. Open it from the Morning brief tile on Home. In Coach Mo's settings you pick when it arrives, any time from 5:00 to 10:00 AM.
Roast mode
Tap the flame next to the message box and Mo gets meaner, using your real numbers as ammunition. Pick how far it goes in Coach Mo's settings: Clean, Classic, or Unhinged. The stronger levels are for people 18 and over.
