WHOOP, in the leaderboard.
WHOOP doesn't have a face, doesn't show notifications, and doesn't count steps — and the people who wear one wouldn't have it any other way. MoveTogether is built to compete fairly without leaning on step counts. Connect your WHOOP via OAuth and your strain, calorie burn, and workouts feed straight into goal-based and workout-based scoring on the same leaderboard as Apple Watch and Garmin friends.
OAuth via your WHOOP account.
Sign in on WHOOP's own login page and grant MoveTogether read access to your activity. We receive an OAuth token from WHOOP — never your password — and you can revoke access anytime from WHOOP's account permissions.
WHOOP 4.0 and up.
Any WHOOP strap currently active in the WHOOP app integrates with MoveTogether. WHOOP 4.0, WHOOP MG, and any future generations that ship under the same account.
What we read from WHOOP.
MoveTogether normalizes a small set of activity metrics across every supported wearable. Here’s what specifically comes through from WHOOP.
Because WHOOP doesn't track steps, Step Count competitions will under-represent WHOOP users' real activity. Use Percentage of Goals or Workout Based for mixed-device groups that include WHOOP.
Sync cadence
Every 15–30 minutes
We poll the WHOOP API regularly. Once a workout or daily activity finishes processing on WHOOP's side, it lands on MoveTogether's leaderboard within roughly 15–30 minutes. Pull-to-refresh for a manual sync attempt.
Best scoring methods for WHOOP.
WHOOP is built around effort and recovery, not step counts. The scoring methods that work best:
Workout Based
Counts points only during logged workouts. Plays to WHOOP's strengths and ignores its lack of step data entirely.
Percentage of Goals
Most cross-device-fair, especially when mixed with non-WHOOP friends. Doesn't penalize WHOOP for not counting steps.
Raw Numbers
Total calories + exercise minutes (steps will be zero). Works inside WHOOP-only competitions.
WHOOP questions, briefly answered.
Why doesn't WHOOP show up in Step Count competitions?
WHOOP doesn't measure steps — by design, it focuses on strain and recovery. In Step Count competitions, WHOOP users will read as zero. For mixed-device competitions that include WHOOP, use Percentage of Goals or Workout Based scoring.
Does MoveTogether use my WHOOP recovery score?
Not for competition scoring. Recovery is information for you, not a competitive metric. We focus on output (calories, minutes, workouts), which is what's fair to compare across devices.
What about WHOOP Strain — does that translate to anything?
Strain duration informs our exercise-minutes pull from WHOOP. The strain number itself isn't a direct scoring input, but the underlying activity that generated it is.
Will sleep or HRV data come through?
No. We only pull activity-related data: workouts, calories, exercise duration. Sleep and HRV stay between you and WHOOP.
The strap, in the competition.
OAuth in 60 seconds. Strain and workouts feed straight into the leaderboard, no step count required.
