OAuth connection

WHOOP, in the leaderboard.

WHOOP doesn't have a face and doesn't show notifications, and the people who wear one wouldn't have it any other way. Our WHOOP integration reads strain, calorie burn, and workouts, not step data, so MoveTogether is built to compete fairly without leaning on step counts. Connect your WHOOP via OAuth and your strain, calorie burn, and workouts feed straight into goal-based and workout-based scoring on the same leaderboard as Apple Watch and Garmin friends.

OAuth via your WHOOP account.

Sign in on WHOOP's own login page and grant MoveTogether read access to your activity. We receive an OAuth token from WHOOP, never your password, and you can revoke access anytime from WHOOP's account permissions.

WHOOP 4.0 and up.

Any WHOOP strap currently active in the WHOOP app integrates with MoveTogether. WHOOP 4.0, WHOOP MG, and any future generations that ship under the same account.

What we read from WHOOP.

MoveTogether normalizes a small set of activity metrics across every supported wearable. Here’s what specifically comes through from WHOOP.

MetricSupportedNotes
StepsNoMoveTogether doesn't ingest WHOOP step data. WHOOP counts steps in its own app, but Step Count scoring here won't reflect WHOOP users' activity.
Active caloriesYesWHOOP's calorie burn flows in.
Exercise minutesYesWHOOP's strain duration maps here.
WorkoutsYesEvery workout type WHOOP detects or you log manually.

Because MoveTogether doesn't ingest WHOOP step data, we don't seat a WHOOP-only account in a competition scored on steps and nothing else, rather than let it under-represent your real activity. That covers every way in: creating one, joining a public one, and accepting an invite or an invite link. Use Percentage of Goals or Workout Count for mixed-device groups that include WHOOP.

Sync cadence

Every 15–30 minutes

We poll the WHOOP API regularly. Once a workout or daily activity finishes processing on WHOOP's side, it lands on MoveTogether's leaderboard within roughly 15–30 minutes. Pull-to-refresh for a manual sync attempt.

Best scoring methods for WHOOP.

WHOOP is built around effort and recovery, and our integration reads it that way rather than as step counts. The scoring methods that work best:

Recommended for WHOOP

Workout Count

A point for every logged workout. Plays to WHOOP's strengths and doesn't touch step data at all.

Percentage of Goals

Most cross-device-fair, especially when mixed with non-WHOOP friends: everyone is scored against their own daily goals, each ring capped at 100%. The steps ring still reads zero without WHOOP step data, so pick Workout Count if that gap matters to your group.

Total Activity

Total calories + exercise minutes (steps will be zero, since we don't ingest WHOOP step data). Works inside WHOOP-only competitions.

WHOOP questions, briefly answered.

Why doesn't WHOOP show up in Step Count competitions?

MoveTogether doesn't ingest WHOOP step data. WHOOP does count steps in its own app, but our integration reads strain, calories and workouts instead, so there is nothing for Step Count to score. Rather than rank you at zero, MoveTogether refuses the setup: a WHOOP-only account can't create a Step Count competition, join a public one, join a Step Count seasonal event, or accept an invite or invite link to one. The same applies to a Personal Goal or Stick To It competition whose axis is steps. For mixed-device competitions that include WHOOP, use Percentage of Goals or Workout Count scoring.

Does MoveTogether use my WHOOP recovery score?

Not for competition scoring. Recovery is information for you, not a competitive metric. We focus on output (calories, minutes, workouts), which is what's fair to compare across devices.

What about WHOOP Strain, does that translate to anything?

Strain duration informs our exercise-minutes pull from WHOOP. The strain number itself isn't a direct scoring input, but the underlying activity that generated it is.

Will sleep or HRV data come through?

No. We only pull activity-related data: workouts, calories, exercise duration. Sleep and HRV stay between you and WHOOP.

The strap, in the competition.

OAuth in 60 seconds. Strain and workouts feed straight into the leaderboard, no step count required.
