OAuth connection

Strava, where competition gets real.

Strava is where runners, cyclists, and triathletes log every session — and where kudos live. MoveTogether adds the missing piece: real, scored competitions with people across every wearable platform, not just other Strava users. Connect Strava via OAuth and your workouts feed into Workout Based and goal-based scoring on the same leaderboard as Apple Watch and Garmin friends.

You sign in on Strava's own authorization page and grant MoveTogether read access to your activities. We receive an OAuth token — no password handoff. Revoke at any time from Strava account settings.

Anything that posts to Strava.

Strava isn't a device — it's a platform. If you record runs, rides, swims, or any other activity that ends up on your Strava profile (from a Garmin, an Apple Watch, a Wahoo, a phone, you name it), MoveTogether reads it.

What we read from Strava.

MoveTogether normalizes a small set of activity metrics across every supported wearable. Here’s what specifically comes through from Strava.

MetricSupportedNotes
StepsNoStrava activities don't include step counts — Strava is workout-centric, not step-centric.
Active caloriesYesCalorie burn from logged activities flows in.
Exercise minutesYesWorkout durations map here.
WorkoutsYesEvery activity type Strava supports.

Strava is workout-driven, not all-day-activity driven. Step Count scoring won't reflect Strava-connected users. Use Workout Based or Percentage of Goals for the fairest competitions.

Sync cadence

Every 15–30 minutes

When you upload an activity to Strava (manually or via auto-sync from your watch), we pick it up within roughly 15–30 minutes. Pull-to-refresh in MoveTogether to force a sync attempt.

Best scoring methods for Strava.

Strava is a workout platform, so the workout-focused scoring methods are the natural fit:

Recommended for Strava

Workout Based

Tailor-made for Strava users. Points only during specific workout types — exactly what's posted to your Strava feed.

Percentage of Goals

Cross-device-fair. Doesn't depend on step counts, which Strava doesn't track.

Strava questions, briefly answered.

Will all my Strava activities be visible to MoveTogether competitors?

Only the metrics that score the competition (workout type, duration, calorie burn) feed into MoveTogether — your activity-specific details, GPS routes, and Strava posts stay on Strava. You control how you appear via MoveTogether's leaderboard privacy settings.

If my Apple Watch already posts to Strava, should I connect Strava or Apple Watch?

Apple Watch via Apple Health gives you faster sync (within minutes vs 15–30) and includes all-day activity, not just workouts. Connect Apple Watch directly unless your activities only live in Strava (e.g., you use a Wahoo for cycling and that data only goes to Strava).

Does the Strava integration work for private activities?

Activities marked private in Strava still come through to MoveTogether for scoring (we read activities through your authorized account). What's shown in the activity feed is governed by MoveTogether's own privacy settings.

What about Strava Premium / Strava subscription features?

MoveTogether's integration uses Strava's standard API and works whether or not you subscribe to Strava.

Beyond kudos.

Strava's where you log it. MoveTogether's where you race it.
