Apple Watch, on every leaderboard.
MoveTogether reads your Apple Watch activity through Apple Health on iPhone. Move, Exercise, and Steps rings plus your workouts feed straight into competitions — within minutes. There's no companion app to install on your watch, no extra battery cost, and no setting to flip on. Connect once and your rings show up next to your friends', whether they're on Apple Watch or anything else.
Native via Apple Health.
Apple Watch is the only HealthKit-native integration we ship. When you create a MoveTogether account on iPhone, we ask Apple Health for read-only access to four data types: Steps, Active Energy, Exercise Minutes, and Workouts. From that moment on, your watch's activity flows through Apple Health's background delivery into the leaderboard — typically within a couple of minutes of the watch noticing it.
Series 4 and later supported. watchOS 8.0 or newer. Permissions can be revoked anytime via iPhone Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices.
Every Apple Watch from Series 4 onward.
If your watch is paired with an iPhone running iOS 17 or later and you can see your rings in the Activity app, you can compete. We don't require Cellular, Always-On display, or any specific complication.
What we read from Apple Watch.
MoveTogether normalizes a small set of activity metrics across every supported wearable. Here’s what specifically comes through from Apple Watch.
Sync cadence
Within minutes
Apple's HealthKit delivers activity updates to MoveTogether in the background. New activity usually lands on the leaderboard within a couple of minutes of your watch syncing to iPhone. If you want to force a fresh sync, pull-to-refresh on any screen.
Best scoring methods for Apple Watch.
Every scoring method works with Apple Watch — but two play to its strengths:
Ring Close Count
Apple Watch was built around ring closures. Competitions that score on rings feel native here.
Percentage of Goals
The fairness method. Counts how much of your personal target you closed, so an Apple Watch user with a 600-calorie Move goal isn't unfairly compared to a WHOOP user with no Move ring.
Apple Watch questions, briefly answered.
Do I need to install an app on my Apple Watch?
No. MoveTogether runs on iPhone and reads activity through Apple Health. Your watch keeps doing what it already does — we just listen.
Does this drain my watch battery?
No. Because there's no companion watch app, your watch's battery life is unchanged. All the work happens on your iPhone.
What if I have multiple Apple Watches?
Apple Health automatically prioritizes the watch you wore for a given activity, so you don't need to do anything — MoveTogether reads whatever Apple Health considers authoritative.
Will it work if my watch isn't paired to my iPhone?
No. The integration reads through Apple Health on iPhone, so your watch and iPhone need to be paired and syncing normally.
Your rings, your competitions.
Download MoveTogether, sign in, grant Apple Health access, and start a competition. Your Apple Watch activity is already there waiting.
